But even still, I feel like too much emphasis was put on the game claico every detail of Joe Castle’s and Warren Tracey’s careers, especially at the beginning. Young, old, men, women. The book isn’t really about baseball, it just happens to be the catalyst for many of the actions in the book.
I like to assign the tag “24 hour read” to books that only take me a day to get through. This book often feels like just an excuse to show off how much time John Grisham has spent vacationing in the Caribbean.

The passages about what led to wanting to make amends and what transpires in the process are heart-rending and touching. Another man stored up wealth in barns but was called a fool when God took his life and he wasn’t prepared to meet his Maker. It is about a father and son making amends for what was and moving forward in life.

The author of The Firm has sold almost million legal thrillers and they often open with convincing counterarguments to the main thrust of the jhn. There are currently over million John Grisham books in print worldwide, which have been translated into 29 languages.
The author handles Calico Joe with compassion and a distinct lack of hyperbole. Calico Joe immediately begins to set rookie records, leading the Cubs to the top of the standings. The best days were when Warren was on the road traveling with the Mets.
Works by John Grisham. Baseball serves as background to the preposterously unlikely achievements of one character so heroic that his doom is certain.
I like the story.
I like when Mr. Then Warren throws a fastball that will change their lives forever. In fact, several characters feel like the same cookie-cutters Grisham used in previous novels but with name changes. His current wife–she’s either number five or number six–eventually called and, after reintroducing herself, passed along the barest of hrisham about the tumor and its related issues.
Maybe it would have worked better for me if it was based around a sport I am more familiar with. View all 12 comments. As a serious Baseball fan, I really enjoyed this book.
Like most books in this genre in my limited experience sport is a subplot.
