Mar 13, Rick rated it really liked it Shelves: Who would not trade their life for his? Not the usual michner story. Michener has ever done on any subject. Thus a kind of arms-race ensues, with tourists trying to find out where the locals go and locals trying to find out where the tourists go. I offer them in the spirit of comradeship and not of spite. All travelers and lovers are convinced that their experiences are unique, and therefore worth writing about; while in reality most travel stories and love poems express nearly the same basic sentiment, over and over, with only minor variations.
About pages in and to go, I thought, well, this man is Catholic, given his deeply sympathetic descriptions of Spanish religious sentiments. Iberia By James A. Europe Travel Writing Category: Michener is awesomely experienced in art, history and global politics.
Michener was a huge fan of bull fights, and that I could have skipped entirely.
There are also a lot of personal anecdotes and adventures that help to decide where to go and to appreciate what you see. The author takes a measured, literary view on such subjects as the Moorish occupationIslamCatholicismFrancisco Franco and other controversial subjects.

About this title Audio Format. Michener Limited preview – He gets private tours of every monument. It was an interesting experience in driving throug I enjoyed this book very much, even though I’m not normally a fan of this author.
You see, Michener was a successful novelist with plenty of time and disposable income on his hands. He was jqmes passionate aficionado of bullfights, even though the jmes majority of the bull fights he saw were profoundly disappointing.
